IRC
Chatting on IRC “…offers intimacy combined with autonomy.” Autonomy to some people means politeness is no longer required. This results in hostility.
Eventually, you may wish some day not to see messages from a specific user on your screen. This may happen when someone is dumping large amounts of garbage, or if someone is harassing you. The proper response to such a behavior is to IGNORE that person. IGNORE is a very powerful command, and can be used in many ways. However the basic usage of this tool is the following.
/IGNORE [<nickname>|<user@host> [[-]<message type>]]
Real-life
Wouldn’t it be great if we could put people on IGNORE in meat-space? For example, over coffee someone is feeding you a line of shit and you just cannot take much more. So, you:
/IGNORE cindy@starbucks.coffee.table ALL
*** Ignoring ALL messages from cindy@starbucks.coffee.table
With enough cash, you could hire a troop of bodyguards to place a _working_ cone of silence around the offending party.
QDB: Quote #605932
What got rejected? This:
Me: The interface [XP's] is just unbearable.
Me: Just look at the font rendering on OS X compared to XP.
MK2: They both look like characters
Me: Margaret Thatcher and Jessica Alba both look like women.
Me: which one is easier on the eyes?
MK2: If you're half-blind....
Me: checks his vision, "I can clearly see that one
is old and withered."
Me: XP = Thatcher.
Me: OS X = Jessica.
Mware: lol
Mware: "Margaret Thatcher and Jessica Alba both look like women."
Mware: perfect
Mware: To take the analogy further, it would be as if
Margaret Thatcher had all kinds of advertising and third-party
PR hack firms spreading propaganda saying that Margaret
Thatcher was more beautiful than Jessica Alba.
Mware: And people believed it.
Quote #605932, we loved you. Your memory shall live on, here at this blog.

No, The Great Tower of Apple.
Some people will do anything for a connection:
My sister in law, two floors up, has a DSL modem and a WiFi router [in a 20 square foot one-room, sure, whatever]. The router is on the floor, so I am really, if I really want it, only 1.1 floors away from the router [that would require me to stand on the table and hold the laptop close to the ceiling, but anyway…].

That user’s desktop/wallpaper collection is pretty impressive, sans the freaky bear. More mac-centric desktops can be seen at The CommandShift3 Pool. Command + Shift + 3 is the screenshot keystroke on Macs.
